Guardsman Pass in Utah, which connects Big Cottonwood Canyon and Midway, has been closed longer than usual this spring. Typically, it opens in May, but historic snowfall kept plowing crews from even trying to get the snow cleared.

With warmer temperatures leading to rapid snowmelt, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) was finally able to begin clearing the road on June 5th. They made quick work on the declining snowpack and just opened the road to the public today at 7 am.

It’s an impressive turnaround from how the road was looking on June 5th. UDOT crews had to clear out huge sections of snow this week, so it’s amazing how they were able to open it today. Shoutout to UDOT for all the hard work they put in throughout the 2022-23 ski season!
