Live cameras focused on Mayon Volcano in the Philippines captured a truly stunning sight the evening of Monday, May 25th, as a meteor lit up the sky near the actively erupting volcano. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) initially reported that the meteor actually struck the northern slopes of the volcano, but later review of seismic, infrasound and additional camera footages showed that it actually disintegrated in the atmosphere and did not hit the ground.
AfarTV, an organization dedicated to bringing livestream footage from different natural sights around the world, managed to capture their own stunning footage of the meteor through their Mayon Volcano camera, showing how the meteor lit up the sky with a fascinating green hue.
Mayon Volcano is the most active volcano in the Philippines, with eruptions being recorded as far back as 1616 CE. In 1814, a violent eruption killed more than 1,200 people and devastated several towns. The current continuing eruption began on January 6th of this year.
