Colorado Parks and Wildlife has confirmed the death of another gray wolf, marking the 14th since the beginning of the state’s reintroduction program.

The department received a mortality signal for gray wolf 2310 on Wednesday, March 11th, indicating that the animal had died in the northwest region of the state. 2310 was the maternal member of the King Mountain Pack.

An investigation into the cause of death of the wolf is being conducted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife with assistance from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The cause of death will not be determined until the investigation is complete and a necropsy is completed.

25 wolves have been captured and brought to Colorado since the start of the restoration plan. 10 came from Oregon and were released in December of 2023, while the other 15 came from British Columbia and were released in January of 2025. 14 wolves have now died in the state since the beginning of the program.
