ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah — Two people were hospitalized after their vehicle overturned on a roadway inside Zion National Park late Monday, prompting a technical rescue near the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel, according to local emergency officials.
Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue said crews were dispatched around 8:40 p.m. to a crash near the switchbacks west of the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel after a vehicle went off the roadway and overturned. Images from the scene showed responders using ropes and fire trucks to reach the occupants and safely hoist them from the overturned vehicle. The two individuals were evaluated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or details about their injuries. Officials also said it was not immediately clear what caused the vehicle to overturn. The crash remains under investigation.
