Authorities warned of high avalanche danger in the district on Monday, with Sonamarg and other parts of the valley receiving moderate to heavy snowfall throughout the past 24 hours. The nearby Srinagar airport saw all 58 scheduled flights cancelled, including 29 arrivals and 29 departures, on Tuesday, leaving hundreds of tourists stuck in the region.
Tourist resorts like Sonamarg, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam received significant snowfall, and the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed due to snow accumulation between the Qazigund and Banihal stretch. A few trains between Banihal and Budgam were also cancelled due to the snow, though operations resumed in a few hours.
