On Monday, October 27th, two Hinsdale County Search and Rescue members departed Lake City in Colorado to rescue a couple from Texas who, along with their two dogs, had become stranded west of the summit of Engineer Pass in their vehicle.

The Search and Rescue team members left Lake City around 7:40pm, driving to the top of the pass before continuing on foot due to the deep, unsafe snow drifts. The party was safely located and guided back to the SAR vehicle before being transported to Lake City.

This comes just days after a father and son duo visiting from Florida got stranded at the same Engineer Pass on Thursday, October 24th. In a similar fashion, the two got their Jeep stuck in snow and were forced to call for rescue.

Hinsdale SAR is reminding the public to check current road and weather conditions before heading into the backcountry, as snow drifts are already forming above 12,00 0 feet. Bring the proper cold weather gear and be prepared to change plans and turn around safely if you encounter deep snow.
