Hunter, New York — Pond skimming is a delicate balance. You need speed, and then maintain your balance while you skim through the shallow (and very cold) pool.

This past weekend, Hunter Mountain’s General Manager Trent Poole showed off his skills while pond skimming. I imagine his last name inspired him to try to skim the pool. Trent was able to get most of the way through the pond, but he lost speed and sank just feet away from the shore. He was able to escape the brisk water by crawling backwards.

Hunter Mountain had a solid season. This was thanks to two lift replacements, along with automated snowmaking upgrades on three trails. These improvments allowed Hunter to get more terrain and lifts open quicker. This was partially thanks to a cooler winter than seasons prior. Vail Resorts hasn’t announced yet what improvements are coming to Hunter next winter, but I think they’re in good shape for the future.
