Alaska is known as the home of some incredible skiing, with areas like Alyeska and Eaglecrest featuring some remarkable terrain mixed with some heavy snowfalls. As the northernmost state in the United States, it should be no surprise that Alaska is home to the 3 northernmost ski areas in North America, but there’s a good chance you’ve never heard of them.

3. Birch Hill Ski & Snowboard Area – Latitude 64.85812

With a latitude of 64.85812, Birch Hill Ski & Snowboard area is the 3rd northernmost in the continent. Operated by the Fort Wainwright U.S. Army installation, Birch Hill provides skiing, snowboarding and tubing for all levels and ages, in addition to a terrain park.

2. Moose Mountain Ski Resort – Latitude 64.94061

Moose Mountain is limited to just a single rope tow chairlift that services beginner terrain… sort of. The resort operates a bus service that takes guests from the base to multiple stops along the top of the mountain, what the resort calls “the fastest, warmest ski lifts anywhere.” Moose Mountain offers 750 acres of terrain with 1300 vertical feet.

1. Ski Land Fairbanks – Latitude 65.04600

Ski Land Fairbanks boasts the furthest north ski lift in North America, taking you up 1027 feet of vertical elevation over 3882 feet of travel. This inverted ski area’s (base at the top of the mountain) season tends run from early December to the end of April, open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.
