Berthoud Pass is a stunning region for outdoor recreation in Colorado during both the summer and winter. Hiking trails for all skill levels are abundant during the summer, and the winter brings about incredible backcountry skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing opportunities.

The now closed Berthoud Pass Ski Area provides remarkable skiing and snowboarding sights right off the road, some ideal for beginner backcountry adventures and some more ideal for the experienced outdoorsmen. Of course, where there’s an easily accessible mellow hill, there’s a good chance people will try to go sledding.

The Berthoud Pass Trailhead does not allow winter sledding in the winter. If you’re wondering why that might be, just take a look at this video below:

According to the original poster, Tony, the kid was okay after the crash. He also points out that there are a ton of signs around the hill clarifying that sledding is not allowed but the kid and what appears to be his dad chose to ignore them, going back for more sledding runs after the accident.
