You shouldn’t book ski trips based on resort size alone. You should consider snow quality, trail difficulty, amenities, the type of night live you want, and a whole lot more. It really comes down to what you desire out of a resort trip. But size is certainly something to think about. If you’re hoping to book a trip to a resort with a near endless amount of terrain and plenty of skiable acres to explore, consider one of these six largest ski resorts in the United States.

If you’re looking for the largest ski resort in the proper Pacific Northwest, look no further than Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor. With 4,323 acres of skiable terrain over 124 trails and a max run length of four miles, you’ll have plenty to explore.

5. Heavenly, California – 4,800 acres

California, especially the area around Lake Tahoe, has plenty of options for skiing and snowboarding, with independent options, Ikon Pass options, Epic Pass options, and more. If you only have the Epic Pass, Heavenly is going to be your biggest option in California, with 4,800 acres spread out over 97 trails.

4. Vail, Colorado – 5,317 acres

Vail is the largest ski resort in Colorado, offering 5,317 acres of beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert only terrain, Over the resort’s 278 trails, 53% are considered advanced, and the longest run, Riva Ridge, stretches for over four miles.

3. Big Sky, Montana – 5,850 acres

With an average annual snowfall of 400 inches and 5,850 acres of terrain to explore, Montana’s Big Sky lives up to its name. The area’s 320 named runs are split about 50/50 between beginner and advanced, with 8% of the mountain’s terrain being considered “Extreme”.

With a gondola now connecting Palisades Mountain and Alpine Mountain, Palisades Tahoe has become a California monster. 6,000 acres of skiable terrain is spread across the two mountains, with Palisades Mountain featuring 16 bowls and 170+ trails and Alpine Mountain featuring 7 bowls and 100+ trails.

Utah’s largest ski resort is also the largest ski resort in the United States, with 7,300 acres of skiable terrain spread across Park City Mountain. 50% of the resort’s terrain is considered advanced, while 42% is considered intermediate and 8% is considered beginner. The mountain features over 330 trails, enough to ski for well over several years.
