Interesting tidbit out of Switzerland where the accident insurer SUVA has deployed radar gun toting employees on the slopes of ski resort to raise awareness about speed related dangers:
“The faster you ski the more skiers you risk but it depends on how good of skier you are and whether you leave enough to space to swerve out of the way.” -Samuli Aegerter
Every year 60,000 people get hurt on the Swiss slopes costing $676 million in treatment bills. Might seem like a drop in the bucket to station employees with radar guns to tell people just how fast they were skiing but insurance companies most definitely have their eye on the bottom line and this must appear to be a cost effective prevention modality.
