Snowboarder rides down Ravenel Bridge
Snowboarder rides down Ravenel Bridge

Incredible story out of South Carolina where a professional videographer flying a drone over South Carolina after a recent storm storm noticed a snowboarder as he began his descent down the third longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere and the moment went viral.

Matthew Peacock was collecting footage in the skies above Charleston after its first major snowstorm since 2018 when he saw movement on the Ravenel Bridge. Peacock trained his onboard camera on the bridge and captured the moment a snowboarder dropped in for fresh tracks.

The serendipity didn’t end with Peacock chance filming of the snowboarder, it turns out he actually knew the man who is named Kyle St. John. When he got in touch with him, Kyle explained he had been going through a rough patch recently but was getting better and was experiencing gratitude during his ride and truly thankful for “the day, for the snow, and for the chance to get out and enjoy it.”

Cheers to Kyle for getting out and taking advantage of the rare snowstorm and to Matthew who was able to film his joyous experience.

Videographer Matthew Peacock Account of The Video:

This wasn’t planned at all. I was just about to land my drone when I saw a snowboarder beginning his descent on the Ravenel. In that split-second, I decided to capture it, not knowing how special this moment would turn out to be.

Here’s the wild part: the snowboarder turned out to be someone I know—Kyle St. John. When I shared the clip with him, he opened up about what that moment meant to him.

Kyle told me that as he started his ride, he was thanking God for the day, for the snow, and for the chance to get out and enjoy it. He shared that he’d been going through a rough patch recently, but in the past few weeks, things had started to turn around for him.

What makes this even more inspiring is that Kyle almost didn’t go. He told me he second-guessed himself about heading out, just like we all do when opportunity knocks. But he decided to go for it, and now this moment of pure joy and gratitude exists not just for him but for everyone who’s seen this clip.

It’s crazy to think about how the smallest decisions can lead to something so impactful. For Kyle, it was stepping outside, climbing to the top of the bridge, and just going for it. For me, it was deciding to capture those few seconds before landing my drone.

Now, this clip has become one of the most viral moments I’ve ever shared—and honestly, I’m just grateful to have been able to document such a genuine, joyful experience. Sometimes life aligns in ways we can’t predict, and it’s a reminder to take the shot, make the climb, or just say yes to the moment. You never know what kind of magic it could create.
