Very happy to report Mikaela Shiffrin is making steady progress and is hoping to get back on snow for some “easy turns” in coming weeks after a month of healing following a severe puncture wound and right oblique muscle trauma suffered during a crash in Vermont at the end of November. Mikaela under went followup surgery to clean the wound on December 12th and was iffy if she would be returning to the race circuit this winter but things are currently looking up.
“Happy New Year!!! Making progress over here. I can move and sweat and use my body which is so exciting! This next phase of recovery is all about getting my strength and conditioning back as much as possible while working within the limitations of my obliques. Long hours of gym/rehab time but it’s coming along and I’m so happy with that. Hoping to work into some easy turns on snow in the next week or so. There’s a little ways to go before I’m ready to truly ski with intensity—from a pain and a fitness perspective—but I am psyched with where we’re at now, kicking off 2025! And in the meantime, I’m loving watching the World Cup races!”
So happy to see one of best skiers in the history of the sport back in the gym. Mikaela is currently sitting one win away from her milestone 100 World Cup victories, whether or not she breaks the century mark this season is unclear but we are rooting her on all the way!
