The Alpe d’Huez is home to several wild ski runs. Its most famous is probably the dreaded tunnel run, taking skiers and snowboarders through a 656 foot (200m) long tunnel before taking them onto the steepest mogul field in France. A run like that might be a bit too intense for many skiers and snowboarders, though.
If you’re looking for a long and fairly difficult run, the Alpe d’Huez still has you covered. In fact they claim to have the longest black ski run in Europe, ranging from Pic Blanc through the Sarenne gorges. It starts at an altitude around 10,925, descending a total of 5,971 feet until it reaches the bottom at around 4,954 feet. In total, the run stretches just under 10 miles (16km). European ski instructor Marius Quast gave the long run a test.
“This ski run has been on my list for a long time: I can finally present the Sarenne to you on YouTube. But is this ski run really the longest black run in the world? Is this run really 16 kilometers and 1,800 meters long? We’ll measure it!“
