Colorado Parks and Wildlife shared a pretty remarkable rehab success story to their X (formerly Twitter). Back in last June, a black bear cub was found wandering alone, seemingly determined to be orphaned. Wildlife officers captured the bear and took it to a rehab center in Del Norte.

The young black bear was cared for over several months, with staff working hard to ensure the bear wouldn’t associate humans with food sources. To do so, there was no contact between the animal and people and conditions were kept as as wild as possible.
After several months, once it was determined that the bear’s time in rehab was maximized, the bear was released along with two other orphaned, rehabbed cubs in a secluded area of Jefferson County. The release schedule gave the bears enough time to prepare for hibernation and to build a den.
Hopefully these adorable cubs have a successful winter and an even more successful summer next year!
