In a state as vast and geographically diverse as Utah (12th biggest state in the US) some may wonder why most of the ski resorts are located in such a small area. Out of the 15 public ski resorts in Utah, 13 are situated in relatively close proximity to each other in Wasatch Range located in northeastern portion of the state.
The good folks at PeakRankings created this comprehensive analysis of the key factors contributing to the dense concentration of ski resorts including consistent snowfall, remoteness of locations and Wilderness protections.
There are some notable exceptions to the rule with Beaver Mountain, Brian Head, Cherry Peak, and Eagle Point existing outside the Wasatch Range but currently the major ski resorts exist solely in the Wasatch Range.
