Unicycle Everest World Record set @ UVA

Congratulations to University of Virginia class of 2027 student Mason Allen who just set the Unicycle Everest World Record on campus.

The endurance category known as “Everesting” involves climbing the equivalent of highest point on Earth (Mount Everest 29,035 feet) in the fastest time possible. We have seen similar widely publicized Everesting records in running and ski mountaineering but unicycling is rather niche under the radar discipline however no less impressive.

Allen made his record breaking ride on what the U.S. Geological Survey calls Mount Jefferson, which is also known as Observatory Mountain or at UVA as O-Hill. He completed nearly 130 laps of O-Hill in 21 hours and 9 minutes to secure the fastest time beating out the current record holder Ben Soja by just under 2 hours.

“Honestly still feels surreal at this point. I want to thank everybody who came out, even if just to cheer for a lap or two. It may have seemed small, but the mental boost from having people there cannot be overstated.” -Mason Allen
