Skiing on water-injected snow (ice).
Skiing on water-injected snow (ice).

Ski racers are probably the only people on the mountain actively looking for the iciest surface possible. It makes sense, that’s what they race on. In fact in the higher level competitions, the race surface is sprayed down with sprayed down (“injected”) with water to make the course harder and more equal for the entire competition field.

If you’ve ever wondered what this professionally “water-injected” snow sounds like, Mikaela Shiffrin shared an ASMR-like video with a microphone strapped to her boot. Racers might dream of training on a surface like this, to me this sounds like nails on a chalk board…

@mikaelashiffrin

Mic’d up my feet so you can hear what it sounds like to ski on “injection”🥴😘. That was our first day training on very hard/icy injection for this season—suffice it to say, my skeleton is in shock today😂 #ski #skitok #skiing
