UNITED STATES – The U.S. National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame has announced their Class of 2024 inductees, set to be inducted at the Snowsports History Celebration in Lake Placid, NY in March 2025. The group of 10 was announced at the Hall of Fame’s annual charity golf outing at Whiteface Club and Resort.
The 2024 class includes four New Englanders, three Coloradans, two Michiganians, and one Californian. Sarah Billmeier of Yarmouth, ME, earned 13 Olympic medals between 1992 to 2002 as one of the most accomplished Paralympic skiers ever, and was the youngest member of the U.S. Disabled Alpine Ski Team at just 14. Barrett Christy Cummins, of Vail, CO, won 11 XGames medals between 1997-2002, in addition to being on the 1998 inaugural Team USA snowboard halfpipe Olympic team.
Denny & Chris Hanson of Midland, MI, founded Hanson Ski Boots in 1970, bringing the first commercially viable rear-entry ski boot onto the market, and in 2006, Denny founded Apex Ski Boots. Hannah Kearney of Norwich, VT, won Olympic gold in mogul skiing in 2010 and won a total of 46 World Cup moguls’ victories throughout her carrier, a women’s record matching number.
Greg Lewis of Denver and Aspen was the voice of World Pro Skiing, in addition to covering both summer and winter Olympic sports for NBC, CBS, ESPN, HBO, Turner, and GGP. Jimbo Morgan of Truckee, CA, helped to coin the term “freeski” and was, according to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, the first person photographed while grabbing his skis in the air.
Chuck & Jann Perkins of Burlington, VT, were major philanthropic and personal advocates for snowsport history, contributing to the 10th Mountain Division, the International Federation of Mountain Soldiers, and the International Skiing History Association. Park Smalley of Steamboat Springs, CO, was the first head coach of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team, working with more than 3,000 athletes throughout his 25 years as head coach.
