Most ski resorts fall into a pretty similar mold. Obviously every resort has their own charm and energy around the mountain, and different terrain is favored at different locations, but at the end of the day, a ski resort is a ski resort. There’s snow, a lodge, at least a couple of lifts, and several snow covered runs, whether the snow is natural or manmade. But some ski resorts aren’t fairly typical, so YouTube channel mountainsight put together a ranking of the 10 most unusual resorts in the world.
“There are ski resorts in many unusual parts of our world. When planning a ski trip, there are a large number of resorts to choose from. When thinking of ski resorts, most immediately imagine the Alps in Europe or the majestic mountains in Canada and USA. However, there are many places in the world where you can ski which few people have heard of. These include exotic places like Africa, Greenland and Hawaii, so if you’re getting bored of mainstream ski resorts and need inspiration, here are the 10 most unusual places to ski in the world.“
Lists like this will always be subjective, so it’s absolutely okay for you to disagree. Frankly, I don’t think a resort on Australia’s southernmost state (Tasmania) is that unusual, but maybe that’s just because I’m plenty exposed. Mountainsight’s list is as follows:
- Afriski, Lesotho
- Mauna Kea, Hawaii
- Gulmarg, India
- Solbakken, Greenland
- Troodos, Cyprus
- CopenHill, Denmark
- Tasmania, Australia
- Oukaïmeden, Morocco
- Mount Olympus, Greece
- Ski Dubai Centre, Dubai
