BRECKENRIDGE, Colorado – German ski instructor Marius Quast did a tour of North American ski resorts this past winter, hitting several iconic locations like Jackson Hole, Crested Butte, and Revelstoke. But for his first resort of the trip, Quast stopped at one of North America’s highest ski resorts, Breckenridge, and there were a few things that shocked him, starting with the cost of lift tickets.
“Welcome to Breckenridge Colorado – the ski resort with the highest mountain station in North America. Only mountain railroads in China and India that transport skiers are higher. It’s hard to imagine that this ski resort is higher than Zermatt. We take a look at the various options in the area, film a ski resort test in 4k, mention the prices for lift passes such as the Epic ski pass and simply take you along on our exploration of American ski culture.“
It is very interesting to see an American ski resort through the eyes of a European skier, especially noting some of the specific things he mentions. He talks about how the lift lines function differently and seem to pile up more in the United States, he mentions how everything feels closer together and how there are more buildings, and he mentions how the buildings look like they’re out of a movie. He also talks about the different types of skis, and how Americans tend to lean more heavily towards freeride/all mountain skis while on the slopes. Prices, though, are the real highlighted difference.
Breckenridge, along with several other Vail owned resorts, just announced their opening days for the 2024/25 ski season. Breckenridge is set to kick off their ski season on November 8, so get your passes soon if you plan on heading there!
