Dear Unofficial Networks,

My name is Steve, and I’m a freshman in high school. I’m writing to you because I think it’s really important that all National Parks be closed during the summer.

During the summer, the number of visitors to National Parks skyrockets, leading to overcrowded conditions. This not only diminishes the experience for everyone but also has severe impacts on the natural environment. The heavy foot traffic erodes trails, disturbs wildlife, and damages plants. Our parks are supposed to be sanctuaries for nature, and the summer crowds are putting them at risk.

Additionally, the effects of climate change are making summers hotter and drier, increasing the risk of wildfires. The presence of large numbers of people can exacerbate this risk. By closing the parks in the summer, we can reduce the chances of human-caused wildfires and allow the natural environment to better cope with the stresses of climate change.

Park rangers and staff are also under immense pressure during the busy summer months. They work tirelessly to manage the crowds and maintain the parks, often at the expense of important conservation efforts. A summer closure would give them the opportunity to focus on preserving the parks and ensuring they remain beautiful and healthy for future generations.

I understand that many communities rely on tourism for their economy, and closing the parks in the summer might impact them. However, the long-term health of our National Parks is more important. We need to prioritize conservation over short-term economic gains to ensure these natural wonders are protected.

I hope that Unofficial Networks can help raise awareness about this issue. By supporting the idea of closing National Parks during the summer, we can take a significant step towards preserving these precious environments.

Thank you for considering my perspective. I believe that together, we can make a difference in protecting our National Parks.

Sincerely,

Steve from Montana
