GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Arizona – The body of a man traveling down the Colorado River was discovered near river mile 6 in Grand Canyon National Park on Friday, May 10.

According to a press release from the park, park rangers were notified of the body in the Colorado River and responded to the scene, transporting the man to Lees Ferry and then to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. Though the medical examiner is yet to confirm the identity, initial information points towards the body being that of 58-year-old Thomas L. Robison.

It’s believed that the 58-year-old, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, was attempting to travel down the river on a wooden raft with his dog, leaving his personal vehicle at Lees Ferry before departing on the water.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation into the incident. No other information has been released at this time.
