Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah- A growing winter sport is coming to one of the world’s most famous ski areas. Today, Alta Ski Area shockingly announced that it will allow ski/snow bikers on its lifts. Previously, Alta had banned “snowboards, split boards, snow bikes, snow skates, ski blades, saucers, lurks or anything longer than a regular ski pole.”

Alta issued the following statement to season passholders this morning:

Over the years, we have heard from many haters and skeptics that we are not welcoming to other winter recreationists. To become a more inclusive mountain, we’ve decided to allow ski bikers onto our lifts. Based on the rise of the sport over the past couple of years, we’ve decided this is the time to allow another type of skiing at Alta. We believe that experienced ski bikers can handle the challenging traverses, chutes, and deep powder that are a part of the Alta experience, even if they ski in jeans. We know some of you may be mad about this decision, but at least we aren’t allowing snowboarders to ride the lifts.”

Unsurprisingly, snowboarders are still not allowed to ride the lifts at Alta.
