Would 23-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles be good at skiing? We don’t know if she’s ever even given it a shot, let alone whether or not she’s any good. Is it even possible to determine if someone would be a good skier before actually putting them on skis?
Well, two-time Olympic gold medalist and the most decorated alpine ski racer of all time Mikaela Shiffrin seems to think so. In an interview with Olympics.com, Shiffrin explained that she believes Simone Biles would be specifically good at slalom, highlighting the gymnast’s explosiveness as a strength.
“The explosiveness helps a lot in slalom. But she’s strong and she’s smart, you know, she can do it all!” -Mikaela Shiffrin
Late last month, Simone Biles spoke on the athletes outside of gymnastics that she would like to see compete in the different gymnastic disciplines in a video posted by Laureus to X. For vault, she wants to see her husband (and NFL player) Jonathan Owens, and she wants to see LeBron James take on vault. For floor, Biles wants to see Serena Williams. Of course, for beam, Biles picked Mikaela Shiffrin.
“On beam, I would love to see Mikaela Shiffrin, because honestly I think she’d be really good at it. She’s a beast in her sport and I think there are some similarities in balance.”
Shiffrin did respond to the video, saying “Haha! You have too much faith in me, @Simone_Biles”
I am not a master skier, and I am certainly not even a gymnast, so I there isn’t much I can say on who would be good at either. If anyone would know, though, it’s those two, there’s no denying that. Obviously this is just friendly discussion and media stuff, but it’s still fun!
