More information, including the extent of injuries, relating to a 47-year-old woman who was gored by a bison in Yellowstone National Park, has been released to the public. According to 12News, The woman, Amber Harris, was with her fiancé, Chris Whitehill, when the incident occurred.
“When we were walking down, we spotted one bison 25/30 yards away and he was just grazing. I said to Amber, ‘There’s bison here. Let’s just move away and give him his space.’ Which we did. You know being an outdoorsman myself. I hunt and fish and I know that you have to have respect for any wild animal out there.” – Chris Whitehill
Their attempt to get away from the animal, unfortunately, wasn’t enough, and the bison charged at Amber. The bison struck her head-on, causing her to tumble through the air and land hard on the ground. She was airlifted to an Idaho medical center, suffering from seven spinal fractures and two collapsed lungs.
The trip was initially intended to be an engagement trip, according to Today, with Harris entering the hospital as Whitehill’s girlfriend and exiting as his fiancé.
“Chris had planned a beautiful marriage proposal this week on a natural bridge but all three of us have been in the hospital since yesterday morning and I won’t be able to leave any time soon. So my love got down on one knee beside my hospital bed last night and formally asked me to be his wife.” – Amber Harris on Facebook
She did, in fact, say yes.
