Major investments have led to record visitation at Great Bear Ski Valley in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. KELO reports that the ski resort has exceeded 50,000 visits during its ski season for the first time ever. The previous record was set during the 2010-11 season.
In addition, they just got over a foot of snow on Wednesday. If they can keep the amount of rain limited, they should be able to remain open for at least a couple more weeks.
Last winter, they added a new Skytrac quad chairlift, which services their summit. This increased the reliability and safety of their skiing operations. Another perk is Great Bear being in Sioux Falls, which is the biggest city in the state, allowing many locals to learn to ski or ride at a cheap cost.
