Whitefish Mountain Resort in Montana is adding significant capacity by replacing Chair 4 with a detachable six-pack chairlift. The Snow Ghost Express will carry up to 2200 people per hour up to the top of Inspiration Ridge. The ride time will be around seven minutes and will cover 2200 vertical feet. Previously, the only way to reach Whitefish’s upper mountain terrain from the Base Lodge area was to go on Chair 6, and then ski down to Chair 1 or Chair 2. This new lift will give access to the front side and the runs serviced by Chair 5.

Yesterday, Whitefish released its first construction update for the project. Leitner-Poma, who is building the lift, “has poured concrete foundations for some of the 25 towers that will support the new lift, and crews have been hard at work prepping the ground for the top and bottom terminals.”This drone footage from Whitefish gives you an idea as to what the lift line will look like, and what kind of terrain it will serve. The new chairlift is expected to open during the 2022-23 season.
