I’m, personally, not much of a backcountry person. A major part of that is, because of my lack of avalanche training and lack of avalanche gear, I don’t feel entirely comfortable wondering into the Colorado mountains, even if I was with someone who was trained. I’ve got touring bindings on my skis and I have a set of skins, I just haven’t been able to use them yet.

Videos like this, though, definitely give me the itch to get off mountain. The beautiful views, the untouched snow, and just the general remoteness of it all are really quite appealing. It just seems so empty up there, so quiet, and so enjoyable. I will say, the subject and creator of this video, Mediocre Amateur, makes a comment about how boring the top of Utah seems to be, which, based on the shots in the video, I would strongly disagree with. It seems as if he’s a bit spoiled when it comes to views, but that’s something he openly admits to…

“I just wish the top of Utah wasn’t as boring… It’s really cool up here. This is my third time climbing King’s Peak, and it is cool. It’s just… I’m spoiled.” Mediocre Amateur
