Seeing a porcupine while skiing is…

The Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City, UT are well-known for providing some of the best skiing in the entire world. Well, duh, you guys and gals are a bunch of skiers and snowboarders, so you probably already know that.

BUT, did you know the Wasatch is home to a large population of porcupines? These prickly rodents can be seen throughout the winter gnawing on tree trunks, and other foliage.

Somebody spotted one on the top of a tree at Brighton just last week. Check out the video below.

It must be chill being a porcupine in the Wasatch. I’m not sure what they do on a daily basis, but gnawing on the bark of a 30′ tree surrounded by beautiful mountains seems like a pretty sweet deal.

It’s also pretty cool to have a self-defense system built into your body. Come to think of it, people don’t talk enough about porcupines. They’re essentially huge rats that have evolved to grow razor-sharp quills to fend off predators.

That’s pretty neato if you ask me…
