Last Thursday, Snowbird Resort celebrated its birthday. On December 23, 1971, the ski resort opened for the first time. The resort has grown substantially since in inception, including expanding into Mineral Basin, adding multiple high-speed lifts, and putting a lodge at the top of Hidden Peak. Snowbird celebrated its birthday in classic fashion: with a boatload of snow. The mountain has around five feet of snow in December.

On Thursday, Snowbird released a video commemorating fifty years of operations. It meshes classic and modern clips of the mountain. This tribute, along with more vintage videos of the resort are below:

This eighties video promotion shows you what it was like shredding the bird in the eighties. We see some classic winter gear from that era, the insane terrain, and the Cliff Lodge in all its glory.

Finally, this promotional video shows off Snowbird before construction. The 1968 video is filmed and narrated by Warren Miller and showcases the mountain without any lifts or buildings. How the times have changed. Happy Birthday to Snowbird!
