Angelotta was scheduled to have dinner with friends later that evening but he never showed up. His car is still in the parking lot and calls to his cellphone went straight to voicemail.
There was a significant lapse between his absence at dinner and when deputies were notified. Searchers who have gone to look for him have not been able to find any tracks or evidence as to his whereabouts.
Angelotta is an experienced skier and was believed to have been carrying avalanche equipment. Rescue crews have spent much of Sunday searching for him using snowmobiles but found no trace. The area he was at was also an area where avalanche danger is considered high.
The search for Rory Angelotta will continue at 8 a.m. on Monday. However his disappearance comes as a significant snowstorm continues to hit the Sierra through Monday. The sheriff’s office is unsure how safe it is to even put rescuers too far into any out-of-bounds areas.
