In terms of Colorado ski resorts, Granby Ranch is definitely under the radar. But, with new ownership and $4 million dollars spent over the offseason, that is about to change. The snowmaking enhancements are immense: They are going from 38 to 115 acres of snowmaking access. This will allow the mountain to open earlier, as they only average about two hundred inches a year.
Over on the West Mountain portion of the resort, the SE Group is working to develop a competition venue for the upcoming season with their consultant you may have heard of: Bode Miller. The course will be served with new snowmaking machines, and will include a Giant Slalom, two Slalom training courses, a mogul course, and Junior Super G. These changes will help West Mountain become a “national-level training and competition venue on West Mountain.” Other improvements include new fiber on the slopes to improve connectivity, food and beverage enhancements, and new terrain features.
And then there are the future projects. They are currently consulting with the SE Group, which has created development plans for ski resorts across the country. No firm details have been revealed yet on what those future projects could be, but based on scoping out the mountain through Google Earth, a ski expansion could be a part of it. With a large base area with condominiums and houses, further lodges and hotels could be part of the plans as well.
