The world’s shortest commercial flight is between islands off the north coast of Scotland from Papa Westray to Westray. The flight covers just under two miles of distance and takes roughly 90 seconds to complete.

So, how is this possible? YouTube legend Tim Scott traveled to Papa Westray to explain. The flight is part of a bus-route like system subsidized by the UK government to allow residents of the Orkney islands to travel.

Ferries are available, but the flights are the most direct way to travel between islands, and the tickets are cheap thanks to the subsidized tickets.

I once took a 20 minute flight from Milwaukee to Chicago, and I thought that was ridiculous. I can’t imagine hopping on a plane and touching down at the next destination in under 2 minutes. It’s a truly unique experience that isn’t replicated really anywhere else in the world.

They obviously don’t have any food or beverage service during the flight, but it would be funny if the pilot threw everybody a bag of peanuts and a small can of Coke before takeoff.
