Approximately 80% of Canada’s population lives within 100 miles of the US border

Check out this excellent video by RealLifeLore that explains why 50% of all Canadian citizens live south of essentially the 45th Parallel.

Canada is one of the largest countries by land in the world, but its population of only 38 million is about ten times less than the United States of America.

The video’s creator does an excellent job explaining why Canada’s population is confined to such a small area due to the Great Lakes, land available for Farming, trade with the United States, and climate.

I had multiple “Huh, I had no idea about that.” moments while watching this video and thought it was definitely worth the share. I was most surprised to learn about Toronto and Montréal’s populations exploded from the late 1800s to the late 1900s.

Enjoy as you learn some knowledge you can drop at your next social outing with your smart friends. Just squeeze in a “Did you know ____ about the Canadian population?” and watch them be mildly impressed.
