Vail Daily is reporting that a man from Lone Tree, CO racked up some serious stats on his Vail Resorts EpicMix app this past season.

62-year-old Brad Blacketor totaled 12,421,058 vertical feet over the course of 188 days during the 2020-2021 season. He averaged 66,000 vertical feet of skiing per day! INSANE!!!

To ski 12m+ vertical you have to ride the lift quite a bit. Blacketor averaged 40 lift rides per day totaling 7,363 on the season.

There’s no doubt that this accomplishment is incredible, but you have to wonder what could possess somebody to ski over 12 million vertical over the course of 188 days? Skiing 150+ days in a season is an accomplishment in itself, but to go hard each one of the days is borderline lunacy.

Let’s put this into perspective. Breckenridge had the longest season of any of the Vail-owned resorts at 192 days (11/25/20-5/23/21).

I’m sure that Blacketor got in a few days at Keystone prior to Breck opening, and probably visited other Vail-owned resorts across the country using his Epic Pass, but he totaled 188 days when the resort with the longest season was only open 192 days!

So we know that he practically skied every day of the winter season, but he also put in work to pad the stats on each of those days. Using Blacketor’s season totals we can paint the picture of his daily stats.

Blacketor was averaging 40 lift rides and 66,000 vertical per day. Based on those numbers we can find he was averaging 1,650 vertical per run. Can you imagine busting out 40 consecutive runs of 1,650 vertical per day for almost every day of the entire season?

I don’t know about you, but I think my hamstrings would literally fall off my bones and form into a pool of melted muscle and tissue behind my knee never to be used again.

That’s dramatic, but I still don’t understand how Blacketor was able to accomplish this at 62 years old. I’ve heard the cliche that ‘age is just a number’, and I’m starting to believe it applies in this situation…

Blacketor also got some serious bang for his buck on the Epic Pass. A full priced pass ran for $979 last year. Which means Blacketor ended up with an insane value of $5.20 per day of skiing over his 188 days on the mountain. Gotta wonder if Vail was a little upset that somebody would use their pass that many times… 😆

Well done Brad Blacketor, well done. You have defined what it means to be ‘living the dream’ for ski bums for years to come.
