State officials used explosives dropped from a helicopter to trigger a massive avalanche in Telluride, CO a couple of years ago.
The footage of snow debris engulfing the valley below is spectacular, and the cheers from the onlooking crowd makes it feel like a sporting event.
Which got me thinking…
Why don’t more mountain towns announce avalanche mitigation plans on nearby mountains so that crowds can gather and watch?
Set up a little beer tent, maybe some live music as an opening act, and get ready for the big show. Hell, I’d be there every day if I could see an avalanche like that one every time!
