Peter Smith sent us this video from the Colorado backcountry which shows him nearly getting hit by an avalanche that broke out above him. The slide fractured down to the dirt about 500’ above Peter and ran for 1,500’.

Big kudos to his partner who had eyes on and gave Peter positive directions on how to get out of harm’s way.

This shows:

  1. When possible keep your eyes on your partner as they descend a slope.
  2. Always be in communication with your partner even when skiing down a slope.
  3. Always give positive directions (Go Right). Never give negative directions (Don’t Go Left).
