Every day we receive emails from fans and detractors alike. Most of these emails go something like “Can’t believe you’re a pro blogger. I’m way sicker than you.” But once in a while, we gat an interesting email or letter that we feel is worth sharing.

Letter To Editor:

June 20, 2020

Dear Unofficial Networks,

I don’t read your website often but I recognize that it is the most popular and visited ski website in the world so I wanted to contact you with an idea that I hope you can share.

In 1987, I started my career in the ski business. Since that time, the ski industry has largely become a duopoly with Alterra Mountain Company and Vail Resorts owning the majority of the major ski resorts. These two companies have the opportunity to do more to promote diversity on the ski hills of the United States than anyone else. I applaud both Rob Katz and Rusty Gregory letter’s addressing the lack of diversity at ski resorts. However, action not words are needed now.

Over the past few weeks, I have been wrestling with what the ski industry can do to help promote diversity within the sport we all love when it dawned on me. Both Alterra Mountain Company and Vail Resorts need to step up and provide FREE ski passes to all minorities.

The way I see it, there is no better way to bring diversity to ski resort towns and widen the base of skiers and snowboarders than by making this bold move. If the ski industry is dying due to the lack of skiers why not open the sport up to millions of new participants?

Regards,

Anthony B.
