It is being reported that teenage climbing star Luce Douady died in a fall while climbing near her home in southeastern France.

“Petite Luce,” wrote fellow French climber Julia Chanourdie. “Tragic news when I woke up this morning, I knew Luce through the competitions that we shared together. I will remember her with incredible energy and motivation, clearly nothing could stop her, she was an example to follow despite her young age. It’s unfair.”

At her first adult competition, the 2019 Vail Bouldering World Cup, Luce took fifth place at just 15-years-old.

Luce was the reigning junior world champion in bouldering, a climbing discipline that will be part of next year’s Tokyo Olympics.
