This Dudes Been Self-Isolating In Chile For 40 Years

If you’re wondering how the hell to get through this self-isolation stuff, maybe you can learn something from a dude who’s been doing it since 1965. Meet Faustino Barrientos who has lived alone on the lonely shores of Lake O’Higgins’ in Chile in a house built from the remains of a shipwrecked fishing vessel.

His nearest neighbors are in a small community of several hundred people, 25 miles away, two-day’s horseback ride through rugged mountain animal paths.

At the time of this interview with VICE Faustino was 81 years old and his self-imposed isolation was being encroached upon by the forces of government, economy, and tourism. Fascinating character, it’s a four-part series, find the rest below:
