The Tour de France got put on hold by a bit of mountain weather this afternoon in the Alps when hail, snow, and subsequent landslides shut down the course.
Yahoo reports Stage 19 was cut short at the top of the mountain climb on Col de l’Iseran, the highest paved pass in the Alps at 9,000 feet above sea level. Slick roads would have made the descent ultra dangerous but landslides that took out portions of the road made it impossible.
Times for stage 19 were taken at the top of Col de l’Iseran. Since the rest of the stage won’t be raced, cyclists were taken by car to Tignes, the end point of stage 19.
