Italian cyclist Lorenzo Gobbo, 17, was competing in a bike race in Belgium when he was impaled by a piece of wooden track. Gobbo was rushed to a hospital where he is in intensive care.

It is being reported, that his lung was punctured as well as his thigh. The wooden spike was raised when a pedal hit the track during a collision between riders.

Thankfully Gobbo is expected to make a full recovery.

The chief executive of Cycling Vlaanderen, who organised the event, Frank Glorieux, confirmed Gobbo is recovering well.
