Liftblog.com is reporting that Eaglecrest Ski Resort outside of Juneau, Alaska is considering building the first gondola in the state.
The gondola would reach 7,000 feet with 1,680 feet of vertical rise traveling over 20 towers.
The lift would be run year round to not only ferry up skiers and riders but also to carry the throngs of tourists arriving during the summer months on cruise ships.
“With tourism being one of Alaska’s few growing economic sectors, there are many indications that now is the right time to move forward and make Eaglecrest a financially sustainable, year-round recreation destination,” a study into the project concluded.
The projected cost of the project is $34.9 million which would include the new gondola for $11.2 million, $5 million for a summit lodge, $4 million for long span zip lines, $3.25 million for a mountain coaster and $3.75 million for utilities and road construction.
