A New Jersey doctor has been sentenced to spend the next 3 Valentine’s Day in the slammer after being found guilty of attacking a 12 year old boy in a ski rage incident 3 years ago. The New York Post reports 47 year old Dr. Samuel Caruthers attacked the boy with a ski pole at Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon after the boy reportedly crashed into his 10 year old son on a bunny slope.
The 12 year old boy Caruthers attacked reportedly suffered injuries to his back, ribs and lip. His mother read a letter on his behalf in front of the court Wednesday:
“(The events) have affected me in more ways than one. Repeated nightmares, visual and auditory triggers to references of skiing or snowboarding and paranoia.”
Caruthers was convicted of third-degree child endangerment, simple assault and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Dr. Samuel Caruthers sentencing terms seems odd but the judge specifically choose 24 hours of jail time on each of the next three Valentine’s Days becuase the attack happened on Valentine’s Day.
