It was a highly successful ski season across Colorado but Purgatory might be the happiest of all with the increased turnout. The Southwest Colorado ski resort saw a 47% increase in visits from the 2017-18 season to the 2018-19 season. The Durango Herald reports Purgatory received a whooping 30 feet of snow during the winter which translated to massive bump in guests:
“This year was one of the snowiest years on record since the resort has been tracking.” Purgatory Spokeswoman Theresa Graven
Graven was actually surprised the resort didn’t see a bigger increase in visits but it’s possible the monthlong closure of Red Mountain Pass may have dissuaded some skiers and snowboarders from visiting. Also conditions were epic at neighboring mountains which may have lured potential visitors to other resorts.
Colorado Ski Country USA released projections Thursday showing a nearly 12% increase in visits from the five-year average but Purgatory can rejoice in a that quadruple that. Hell of season. Congratulations.
