The popularity of skiing is on the rise in China.

For the first time ever, the seven ski resorts in China’s Hebei Province sold a combined 1.07 million lift tickets.

The Chongli ski district in China’s Hebei Province has some of the most advanced ski area infrastructures in the country. China’s Hebei Province, which will be hosting a number of Olympic events for the 2022 games, has seven ski areas offering up 169 runs with a combined length of 162 kilometres, served by a total of 67 ski lifts.

According to The International Ski Federation, FIS, skier visits in the area have grown from 40,000 in 2003, 200,000 in 2009 to 1.07 million in 2019.

China is making a big public push to get more of it’s 1.386 billion citizens to take up skiing before the 2022 winter Olympic games in Beijing.

On May 10th, China marked 1,000 days until the start of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
