Late last week, skier Sean Gaubatz spotted a rare snow devil while skiing near St. Mary’s Glacier in Idaho Springs. Snow devil’s raise up from the ground in the form of a whirling column of varying height with a small diameter and an approximately vertical axis. They occur when the air above snowy ground is cooler than the surface below.
