An investigation is being launched into what may have caused a deadly, mid-air crash between a helicopter and plane that left 7 dead in the Italian Alps.

According to the Local, The accident occurred above the Italian ski area of La Thuile in the Aosta Valley. Reports indicate that the helicopter had just left the ground as the plane in question was about to land, resulting in a crash just above the snow.

The people inside the helicopter included two heli guides and their three clients. They were all killed in the crash.

Two others occupying the plane died. The two who survived include the French pilot, Philippe Michel along with one another injured victim from Germany.
