Breckenridge Ski Resort announced this past week that it plans on extending the 2018-19 ski season through the end of May. The announcement (*not even 5 months prior to the actual holiday) comes on the heels of an impressive snowfall cycle. The resort has recorded over 200″ of the white stuff and it’s only 1-20-19.

Breckenridge was originally slated to close Sunday, April 21, but now the Summit County ski area plans to remain open through Memorial Day, (Monday, May 27) as long as the weather and snow permits. Extending the dates of the ski season  is ultimately subject to U.S. Forest Service approval.

The announcement by Vail Resorts to keep their Keystone and Breckenridge properties open later into the Spring, is part of a new commitment by the company to offer longer operational dates. Nearby Arapahoe Basin and Loveland ski areas typically operate slopes well into May and sometimes during strong snow years– past July 4th.

The terrain available at a late season Breck, would focus primarily on high alpine areas off Peak 7.
